Every year, General Motors plans for a standard two week summer shutdown, yet this year, two plants are expected to endure the shut down for longer than originally anticipated. According to Cameron La Fontaine of Automotive News, the shut down is expected to extend an additional 3 weeks due an large sedan inventory levels and a change in consumer demands. Sales of sedans have experienced a slight decrease and as a result, manufacturing plants for the Chevy Malibu and Chevy Cruze sedans will halt manufacturing during the 5 week shut down.
