# GM Extended Summer Shutdown

Every year, General Motors plans for a standard two week summer shutdown, yet this year, two plants are expected to endure the shut down for longer than originally anticipated. According to Cameron La Fontaine of [Automotive News](http://www.autonews.com/article/20170614/OEM01/170619849/1128), the shut down is expected to extend an additional 3 weeks due an large sedan inventory levels and a change in consumer demands. Sales of sedans have experienced a slight decrease and as a result, manufacturing plants for the Chevy Malibu and Chevy Cruze sedans will halt manufacturing during the 5 week shut down.
